White Lidded Floor Baskets | Senegal

Sale price$130.00
SKU: SWBDOU-M-W
Size:

Crisp white with a fine, even weave, this basket brightens a corner and holds its own beside a sofa, at the foot of a bed, or by the door. It’s simple in shape but full of texture up close, the kind of detail you only get from work done by hand.

Each basket is woven by Wolof women in rural Senegal from millet grass, with white recycled plastic threads worked in for added strength and durability. Depending on size, each one takes 3 to 6 days to weave by hand.

Choose your size

  • Medium (20" H x 13.5" W): Good for corralling the small stuff: socks in the closet, hand towels in the bathroom, small toys, or hats and gloves by the door.
  • Low (23" H x 18" W): Roomy enough for throw blankets in the living room, bath towels, toys in a kid’s room, or shoes in the entryway.
  • Large (30" H x 18" W): Our tallest size, and a natural laundry hamper. It also works well for blankets, pillows, or anything bulky.

Group two or three sizes together for a layered look in a corner or entryway.

Women Weavers of Senegal

📍Mekhe, Senegal

" Weaving brings us together"

The master weavers of Mekhe, Senegal carry forward a generations-old basketry tradition passed from mother to daughter in rural communities just outside Dakar. Working in small cooperative groups, these skilled artisans create each basket entirely by hand, weaving together exceptional craftsmanship with deep cultural heritage. As mothers, sisters, and community leaders, their work helps sustain their families while preserving an enduring craft. We have had the privilege of building a relationship with these artisans for over six years, and their artistry continues to inspire us. Each basket is not only beautifully functional, but a meaningful piece of handcrafted art that brings the story of its maker into your home.
