Recycled Glass Lion

Nestled in the mountains of Eswatini, the artisans of Ngwenya Glass transform recycled glass into extraordinary handcrafted works inspired by the wildlife of Africa. Created in the village of Ngwenya, each piece reflects decades of glassmaking expertise, artistry, and imagination—bringing character and individuality to every animal and sculptural form. Handmade entirely from 100% recycled glass, these pieces are a remarkable fusion of craftsmanship and sustainability.

Since its revival in 1987, Ngwenya Glass has become a powerful example of how traditional artistry can drive environmental and community impact. Using primarily reclaimed soft drink bottles collected throughout Eswatini, the workshop has helped foster a culture of recycling while creating meaningful employment for local artisans. Their commitment extends into the community through partnerships with schools, encouraging environmental stewardship among the next generation through clean-up initiatives and local support programs.
