Prowling Munyunya Leopard

Sale price$46.00
SKU: LEO12
Size:

Artists scattered throughout Zimbabwe, mainly in remote rural areas, create Mbare’s wood sculptures. Indigenous hard woods have become increasingly scarce so we have focused on developing products made from non-indigenous, non-endangered wood like Jacaranda. Much care is taken in the carving and finishing of a product, and this same care is extended to the selection, maintenance and delivery of these fabulous one-of-a-kind sculptures. The prowling leopard is a symbol of ferocity, valor and courage.

Wood Carvers of Zimbabwe

📍Zimbabwe

" Transforming locally sourced wood into sculptural objects rich in character, symbolism, and artistry"

Zimbabwe’s woodcarving tradition reflects a deep respect for natural materials, storytelling, and skilled hand craftsmanship. We work with accomplished woodcarvers across Zimbabwe—both men and women—who transform locally sourced wood into sculptural objects rich in character, symbolism, and artistry. Inspired by regional wildlife, cultural motifs, and contemporary design, each carving is a unique expression of the artist’s creativity and technical skill.

From finely detailed decorative works to bold sculptural forms, these pieces celebrate the warmth and organic beauty of wood while preserving long-standing carving traditions. Many of the artists we work with have developed their craft over decades, while others represent a new generation carrying these traditions forward. To learn more about the individual artist behind a specific piece, please refer to the artist link included in the product description.
