Women Weavers of Senegal

📍Mekhe, Senegal

" Weaving brings us together"

The master weavers of Mekhe, Senegal carry forward a generations-old basketry tradition passed from mother to daughter in rural communities just outside Dakar. Working in small cooperative groups, these skilled artisans create each basket entirely by hand, weaving together exceptional craftsmanship with deep cultural heritage. As mothers, sisters, and community leaders, their work helps sustain their families while preserving an enduring craft. We have had the privilege of building a relationship with these artisans for over six years, and their artistry continues to inspire us. Each basket is not only beautifully functional, but a meaningful piece of handcrafted art that brings the story of its maker into your home.
