Mangwere Thomas is the original artist for our tin ornaments and tin critters. He taught this craft to his son, Daniel, and they have been been making art together for over twenty years. Daniel is married with two children, and enjoys making a living through his craft. Daniel’s cousin, Joseph, is also involved in the family business. Mangwere also taught the Improved Arts group, who currently make Mbare's tin animals.
The tin animals, critters and ornaments are made from recycled tin cans, using only snips, pliers, and hammers. Each piece is then individually hand painted by Weya artists such as Yeukai Tanyara.
