Born in 1968, Cobban was the fifth child in a family of nine. He was educated in Masvingo, Zimbabwe and has been working as an artist since 1988. He attended a course at Driefontein Mission in Masvingo where he obtained a certificate in wood carving. He currently works from Norton with one assistant. Cobban is married and has three children.
