Maison Dorcas (Dorcas House) is a development project created in 1995 to provide employment and training for women in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. They learn sewing, crafts, and small business management skills. For most of the fourteen members, this is their first job. They are learning valuable skills, gaining new confidence, and creating a means to support themselves. The women are encouraged to manage their share of the production process, to come up with ideas for improving current products and to develop new ones. Some also participate in math, literacy, computer and accounting classes.
They are proud to display their products at local shows and sales, where customers are attracted to the quality and variety of their work.
